Ian is perhaps the most respected identity in the Australian travel industry. After a 20 year career and senior management positions at Qantas, he went on to build Wings Abroad, one of the largest independent corporate travel management companies of the 1990’s. Wings Abroad was purchased by a global TMC. Ian then held senior management and board positions with HRG, Carlson Wagonlit and Jetset.
For six years, Ian contributed back to the industry as the Chairman of AFTA, the Australian Federation of Travel Agents. As the head of AFTA, Ian ran the agenda for the development of the industry nationally. He is a frequent speaker at conferences and industry events, and is well known around the industry as a selfless mentor to many younger managers and executives.
Ian’s other roles currently include Chairman of ATCC, the Australian Travel and Careers Council, and Member of the ATAS Code Compliance Monitoring Committee. ATAS is the national accreditation scheme for travel agents run by AFTA. It applies strict industry standards and codes of conduct.
Ian has worked with Butler Caroye Asia Pacific since 2006. His knowledge and sure-handed experience are invaluable.
Tony and Ian have presented at international conferences every year since 2005, including ACTE Singapore, Munich and Rome, GBTA Bangkok, Shanghai, San Diego and Chicago, and at every btTB Conference since 2004. Most recently, Tony helped to design the program and choose the speakers, and to moderate sessions and deliver workshops at the btTB-GBTA Australia 2015, 2016 and 2017 conferences, Australasia’s largest business travel event.
Butler Caroye Asia Pacific won the prestigious btTB Consultancy of the Year Award in 2008, 2009 and 2010 (all three years of the award), and was the first inductee into the Industry Hall of Fame in 2010.
